Modern cities require integrated platforms to collect and leverage data from sensors, IoT devices and monitoring systems. Abinsula contributed to the Cagliari Smart City project, developed for the Municipality of Cagliari and funded through the PON Metro 2014–2020 REACT-EU programme, by building a unified platform supporting urban management and public services. The project was delivered with Fastweb as technology partner, in collaboration with Abinsula and WiData and with scientific support from the DICAAR of the University of Cagliari.
Abinsula, together with WiData, supported the design and integration of the smart city platform, enabling the collection of environmental and urban data from hundreds of IoT devices distributed across the city. The solution combines cloud technologies, sensor integration and centralized data management to provide a unified operational view of environmental conditions and urban dynamics. Through a centralized Control Room, the platform supports real-time monitoring, historical analysis and decision-making, helping the municipality improve sustainability, optimize public services and address challenges such as the urban heat island effect.
The Municipality of Cagliari promoted one of Italy's largest Smart City initiatives focused on environmental monitoring and digital urban governance. Developed in collaboration with technology partners, research institutions and telecommunications providers, the project deploys more than 500 IoT sensors across over 300 locations, creating a city-wide digital infrastructure that supports sustainability, environmental monitoring and smarter public services.
